One year ago, a friend of mine who is now an immigrant in the United States mentioned to me about a book with a title The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
At first I was indifferent. Having read so many motivational books and heard powerful speakers preaching this and that, I thought this is one of those with so much promises but at the end, these would just make you feeel good. And most often, the "feeling good" lasts only for a week.
But then by accident I came across this book in a bookstore. I bought it and read it. Since then I would say this is one of a kind of a book. Not preachy and not patronizing!
Don Miguel Ruiz speaks and re-echoes the teachings of his ancestors, the Toltecs, a native of Mexico who more 1000 years ago lived in a place TEOTIHUACAN (translation: where man becomes God).
Don Miguel Ruiz a Nagual(master) from the Eagle Knight, shares the powerful teachings of the Toltecs.
Don Miguel Ruiz was able to translate these old belief to modern reality and sometimes even alludes to certain Biblical stories.
He was very candid in translating these ancient wisdom to our present mode existence through what he termed as THE FOUR AGREEMENTS.
First BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD. Say what you mean and have integrity in your speech. Never weaken yourself through hearsay and goosip.
Second, DON'T TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY. What people say and think about you need not be your reality.
Third, DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. Communicate what you think and what you feel in an honest way. Inquire to verify and seek to know the truth.
Fourth, ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST. In everything you do, give the best you can. Give your best shot without any regret. Do not be hard on yourself to the point of endanger your self-esteem. Just do the best you can.
By just applying any of these one at a time practically changed not only my perspectives but even my behavioral patterns.
Re-do your life by entering into THE FOUR AGREEMENTS.
